View My Visit

View photos of European and Native Americans taken by Danish immigrant Benedicte Wrensted in her Pocatello, Idaho studio in the late 19th century. These photos document Northern Shoshone and Bannock Indian history and culture, and explore how photos taken out of context can be misinterpreted.

Two of Wrensted's photos appear in the Smithsonian Handbook of North American Indians, Vol. 11, Great Plains, but are not on view in this exhibition.
