The Smithsonian is Closer Than You Might Think. 

Across 50 states, in U.S. territories, and in many nations, in big cities and embedded in rural landscapes, the Smithsonian’s work touches millions who may never visit Washington, D.C. In fact, the Smithsonian comprises a vast network—of museums, research centers, environmental projects, Affiliate institutions, exhibitions and educational initiatives—stretching far beyond the National Mall.
