Buttons and Pins

Anacostia Community Museum

Wearable pins and buttons express opinions quickly and visually. Featuring slogans, images, or names, these small symbols broadcast big ideas. They proclaim pride, protest, and political perspectives as well as memorialize people and events. For two centuries, these mini, mobile messages have been especially prominent accessories in Washington, DC, where people from across the country, around the world, and here at home gather to express themselves freely.
