Live! Unintended Consequences

Season 2
August 14, 2017
episode 5

Catty gossip that led to a presidential scandal, the earliest mavericks of American cinema, and the risque Roman origins of a favorite Disney character. This week, we bring you tales of small things that snowballed and had outsized impacts on history, art, and culture. Presented live at the 2017 NYC Podfest.

The Sidedoor team had a blast performing our first live show! Did you love the Petticoat affair story from the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History? Good news: there’s an entire digital exhibition where you can learn whacky, curious stories about American presidential history! The National Museum of American History also has vast popular entertainment resources where you can learn more about the film industry and Thomas Edison’s impact on it.

Last but not least, make sure you check out these images of the grotesques described in the show! The Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in Manhattan has all kinds of neat items in its collection. Sad to have missed a chance to see Sidedoor live? Fear not! We’re doing another one October 28th as part of the National Museum of American History’s Food History weekend!
