Zora Felton

In 1967, Zora Martin-Felton was named the first Head of the Education Department at the Anacostia Neighborhood Museum. She contributed in significant ways to the early success of the institution. Prior to joining the museum’s staff, she worked with the Southeast Neighborhood House, which hosted a daycare center. She was also a member of the District of Columbia Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Committee for Promotion of the Arts and Economic Development as well as the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. Howard University—where she earned a MA in education—honored Martin-Felton in 1980 with an award for Outstanding Contributions to the Life and Culture of the Black Community.

In 1977, the Anacostia Neighborhood Museum’s Board of Directors voted to include Martin-Felton’s portrait in “Phil Ratner’s Washington,” an exhibition honoring current and former Anacostia residents who contributed to the civic life of the community.
