    PROVENIENCE NOTE: SPEDIS WAS THE PRINCIPAL OLD SETTLEMENT OF THE WISHRAM, LYING 9 MILES WEST OF THE TOWN OF WISHRAM, ON THE NORTH BANK OF THE COLUMBIA RIVER ACROSS FROM THE DALLES. From card: "Made by twining weft strands through the warps producing a flat bag closed on three sides. Embroidered overlay with decorative lozenge and rectangles on lateral walls. Weaving elements are bark, a grass Apocynum, so called Indian hemp, and for the decorative lozenges, a commercial yarn in colors. Provided with buckskin drawstring." Flat bag.
