Description
“Votes for Women” was one of the most popular and recognizable slogans used by members of the woman’s suffrage movement.
The yellow and black color combination was first used in 1867 when suffragists used the Kansas state flower, the sunflower, as part of a campaign for a state suffrage referendum. The referendum failed but the colors became associated with the movement nationwide.
