    Object Details

    Description

In 1924 Washington Senators defeated the New York Giants in the World Series in seven games. That season, the Senators won the American League with a 92-62 record, with 36 year old pitcher Walter Johnson winning 23 games. The Giants reached the series after going 93-60 in the National League.
The series featured a number of future Hall of Famers. On Washington’s side were Johnson, as well as Goose Goslin, Bucky Harris and Sam Rice. Giants Manager John Mcgraw is joined in the Hall by Frankie Frisch, Travis Jackson, George Kelly, Freddie Lindstrom, Billy Southworth, Bill Terry, Hack Wilson, and Ross Youngs.
This Washington score card features player /manager Bucky Harris shaking hands with a fellow D.C. resident, President Calvin Coolidge. Inside are pages devoted to the Senator’s players.
The World Series would be the only championship for the Senators, who moved to Minneapolis in 1961 to become the Minnesota Twins. By that time the Giants were already well established in their new home city of San Francisco, where they moved in 1958.
