Description
Landscape sketch showing a view of the sun setting behind the Catskills Mountains, from the artist's estate known as Olana. Foreground slope descends from right to left and gives way to a wooded landscape in the middle distance, rendered in dark purple. Catskill Escarpment beyond is rendered in a lighter purple, showing atmospheric perspective. Bright light of the setting sun shines on several clouds at center, making them gleam in hues of pink, cream, and peach. In the background, sky is rendered in a gradient from orange to blue.
