Description

The scimitar-horned oryx once roamed throughout most of North Africa. Today however they are considered extinct in the wild due to a combination of overhunting, habitat loss and persistent drought. But thanks to the Chad Oryx Reintroduction Project, which includes scientists from the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute's Conservation Ecology Center are working to return oryx to the Réserve de Faune de Ouadi Rimé-Ouadi Achim. Learn about the work that’s going into reestablishing the wild oryx population.
