Physical Description
Gouache and watercolor painting on paper of the British fishing boat, Grand Charge, coming to the rescue of a Jules Durof and his wife after their balloon crashed into the North Sea in July 1874. Taunted by the crowd, the pair launched from Calais in a considerable wind, were blown out to sea, and assumed lost.
The artist may be Charles John de Lacy (1856–1929), one of the foremost British marine artists of his generation.
