Summary
Unlike previous spacecraft, the Skylab space station (1973-1974) had a small sink and a shower for the astronauts' personal hygiene. Small towels like this were stowed aboard Skylab for the crew members to use. Towels, washcloths, food trays, eating utensils, and other personal items for the three astronauts aboard Skylab were color-coded. The commander's items were marked in red. This towel is one of several that were stowed in the backup Skylab orbital workshop on display in the Museum.
