Three Origami Kimonos

Three dark-patterned origami kimonos are mounted to a plain white background. The examples on the left and in the center contain a floral pattern while the traditional Japanese dress on the right shows a landscape with trees. The piece demonstrates artist Ira Blount's interest and skill in the Japanese art of folding paper.

After moving to Washington, DC following World War II, Ira Blount mastered dozens of artisanal crafts. His love for crafting, learning, and community engagement would endure over the course of his long life and career.
