Description
The Scottish mathematician George Chrystal (1851-1911) was for many years professor of mathematics at the University of Edinburgh. In 1886, he published the first volume of the first edition of this book and in 1889 the second. These volumes represent the fifth edition of the first volume and the second edition of the second volume. The author described the book as "an elementary text-book for the higher classes of secondary schools and for colleges." It was his best-known work.
These two volumes are from the personal library of William F. Eberth (1905-1976), who spent fifteen years of his career with the Atomic Energy Commission working in South Africa. The copy is largely clean.
