Summary
Each Apollo spacecraft was equipped with a set of survival rucksacks. The contents were to be used in the event of an emergency landing in remote areas of the world. These sunglasses were part of the survival rucksack used in training. They are made of ultra-violet filtering plastic and yellow coated nylon. The fabric is soft so that it could be worn close to the head, providing the astronauts with the maximum amount of eye protection. An elastic strap secured them in place.
These sunglasses was transferred from NASA to the Smithsonian in 1978.
