Manufacturer

B. Welson & Co., United States of America

Summary

Three sunbonnets would have been included in a survival rucksack on the Apollo Command Module for use while awaiting rescue at sea. Also contained in rucksack #2 with the sunbonnets would have been a three-person life raft, CO2 cylinders, a sea dye marker kit, a sea anchor, and lanyards. The sunbonnets have two layers, one of orange nylon fabric for protection from the sun in daylight and the other of Mylar foil for warmth at night. This sunbonnet was not flown. It was transferred to NASM from NASA in 1979.
