Summary
This spider cage test unit is identical to the ED52 web formation experiment apparatus flown aboard Skylab, a space station launched into Earth orbit by the United States in May 1973. The cage served as a habitat and web-forming environment for two spiders, Anita and Arabella, in a student-designed experiment. The photo of a test spider and web illustrates how the cage was used. NASA sent Anita, a companion spider "Arabella," and the experiment equipment to the Museum in 1974.
