    Object Details

    Astronaut

    Robert L. Crippen

    Summary

Each astronaut has a personal hygiene kit with selected products for cleanliness, grooming, and comfort. The hygiene kit for Robert Crippen, pilot of the first Space Shuttle mission (STS-1, Columbia) in 1981, included this sleep mask, ear plugs, and other toiletries. Some crew members sleep better when they wear ear plugs and a mask to block ambient noise and light.
NASA transferred these items to the Smithsonian after the mission.
