Summary
This spacefood package contains compressed coffee cake. It was flown on one of the Skylab missions. As it was not consumed, it was returned to Earth. The cake could be eaten without the addition of water and was "bite-sized" to minimize the possibility of crumbs.
Most space food was freeze-dried and easily reconstituted by the astronaut with a water dispenser, which inserted one half ounce of hot or cold water as required. Other food consisted of bite-sized cubes of toasted bread, cookies or crackers, sandwiches and bacon.
This container of food was found in the collection, but was likely transferred from NASA to the Museum in the 1970s or 1980s.
