Description
Owney received this token while traveling in South Dakota. The item is an advertisement for Black Hills tin. During the early 1890s, the area experienced a boom in Black Hills tin, but by 1893 the boom had gone bust. The token, made from Black Hills tin, is engraved with the words “In the spirit of love and justice the people rule.” It is not known who gave the token to Owney, or where in South Dakota he may have received it.
