    Summary

This is a tube of Green Sorrel soup (Shchi) that Soviet cosmonauts could eat while in space. The plastic-lined metal tube contains a single portion of the soup that the cosmonauts can empty into his or her mouth. This soup is based on a traditional Russian recipe similar to cabbage soup. A factory in Estonia produced the package while the USSR occupied the country. This specimen was not flown in space. An American donor gave this item to the museum in the 1970s.
