Summary

The standard wardrobe for Space Shuttle crews included comfortable t-shirts and shorts for sleepwear. Crewmembers usually slept in individual fabric sleeping bags that could be attached to the cabin walls or sometimes slept in an enclosed compartment. After Senator Jake Garn flew as a guest payload specialist--and the first U.S. government official--on the STS 51-D mission aboard Discovery in 1985, NASA transferred some of his garments and equipment to the Smithsonian. Sen. Garn wore this sleep shirt during his mission in space.
