Notes
Johns Hopkins University Egyptologist Betsy Bryan translates: "Reveal the Osiris, the priest of Neith, Horwedja born of Shedet, vindicated. O this shabti. If the Osiris, priest of Neith, Horwedja born of Shedet, vindicated, is reckoned to do any work which is done in the necropolis, as when one is gathered there as his man under his obligations (i.e.subject to corvee labor): Behold me! Then you will be reckoned yourself for me at every moment in order to do cultivation of the fields, in order to inundate the banks, in order to transport sand of the west to the east and back again, Behold me! will you then say!"
From NMNH Exhibit Hall "Eternal Life in Ancient Egypt" label for this artifact, 2011: Shabti, 1298-525 BC. Artisans crafted shabtis from many different materials, including faience, wood, clay, and even wax.
