    Summary

    While on the lunar surface, the astronauts wore a Portable Life Support System known as the PLSS. This secondary oxygen pack is part of the overall life support system, and was designed to extend the operating life of the PLSS in the event of an emergency. It could extend the back-up capability of this unit to 120 minutes.
    Transferred to the National Air and Space Museum from NASA in 1986.
