From draft NMNH Exhibit Hall "Eternal Life in Ancient Egypt" label for this artifact, 2011; note that artifact was ultimately not used in the exhibit: Amulets were tucked into the mummy's wraps—they are believed to ward off evil and bring good luck. Each type was positioned according to instructions in the Egyptian Book of the Dead. Heart scarab amulet; stood for transformation and rebirth.
