Summary
Each Apollo spacecraft was equipped with two survival rucksacks. The contents were to be used in the event of an emergency landing in remote areas of the world. This rucksack, manufactured by B. Welson & Co. was not flown on any mission, but was used for training purposes. It is equipped, however, with everything that was in the flown rucksacks, and included a water container, water desalination/ purification equipment, sunscreen, and other emergency/survival equipment.
The Smithsonian received this artifact from NASA in 1978.
