Research Vehicle, Rocket-Propelled, RM-10

This supersonic RM-10 aerodynamic research vehicle used either an internally mounted solid fuel Deacon rocket to boost it or a double Deacon mounted at the rear of the model. The RM-10 was used by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) for supersonic heat testing from 1947 to 1955 at the NACA's Langley Aeronautical Laboratory, Wallops Island, Virginia.

The RM-10 tests yielded measurements of a body in flight at supersonic speeds over Mach 2 that were fairly close to predicted theoretical values and gave aerodynamicists added confidence in their research. The RM-10 appears to have been donated to the Smithsonian by the NASA.
