Summary

One of two relief panels on the theme of railroad employment installed in the recessed areas over the entrances to the building. This relief panel depicts the interior of a railroad engine cab with the engineer at the controls and another man shoveling coal into the furnace. The figure shoveling coal stands bent over, the shovel grasped with both hand, the end of the shovel loaded with coal about to go into the furnace opening. He is shirtless, but wears trousers, heavy shoes, and a cap. Behind him is a figure seated at the engine controls, his proper left hand grasping the throttle located just above the head of the shoveler.
