Summary
This is a United States Navy Mark IV pressure suit. The Navy contracted with the B. F. Goodrich Company (BFG) to make these high-altitude aviation suits during the 1950s. The full-pressure suit allowed American pilots to fly at extremely high altitudes. When NASA began to develop their human spaceflight program, Mercury, they adapted these suits for use in spacecraft.
NASA Manned Spacecraft Center transferred this pressure suit to the Museum in 1970.
