    Description

    A silver gelatin print depicting a black-and-white image of a march captain at the March on Washington, August 28, 1963. The image depicts a man wearing a white shirt, black tie and a white folded cap, standing with both arms raised. He has an armband attached to the sleeve of his proper right upper arm. Strung around his neck is a tag with his title, [MARCH / CAPTAIN], printed in block text below a seal. In the background there are other March participants, camera equipment, and the Washington Monument.
    On the verso of the image are handwritten inscriptions that provide publication information, image date, event information, location, image number, the name of the printer, and the signature of the donor. There is also the photographer’s label as well as a stamp mark in black ink in the bottom right corner of the verso.
