    Burker, Lucille Leslie

    Description

The back of the chair is a modified balloon shape, attached at base to square seat, from the side of which rises solid rectangular arms that are
continuations of sides of base. Base trimmed with pendent fringe upholstered parts trimmed with cord.
Loose pieces of cord and tassel trimming which probably were draped from top corners of black to top rear corners of arms.
The overstuffed chair became fashionable in the last two decades of the nineteenth century. This type of chair promised relaxation and comfort. Most oriental carpet furniture is in the style that was called "Turkish." The name is derived not from the carpets, although they may be Turkish,
but from the use of that term for chairs.
