Summary
This boot is part of the pair of lunar overshoes that were made by ILC Industries for and worn by astronaut Jim Lovell during training sessions prior to his Apollo 13 mission in April 1970.
These boots were earlier models of those that were eventually used on the moon. They do not have the Chromel-R protective uppers, but otherwise are identical in construction to those worn on the lunar surface. They were constructed by the International Latex Corporation and were considered part of the astronaut's Extra-vehicular (EV) equipment.
The EV boots were worn over the integrated spacesuit boots as protection against extreme temperatures and sharp rocks on the lunar surface.
