New York Street at Dusk

Hirshhorn

A New York City streetscape composed with blues and greys that suggests the end of the day. The streetlights glow as they ascend up a slight incline. A bridge off in the distance is visible as it shines against the blue sky. The sky is filled with white puffy clouds that encompass the top half of the artwork. The main street depicted travels diagonally across the bottom right corner. Another street intersects this one, where a trolley is traveling by. There is a bridge above this street where two trolley cars are traveling above the one below. The buildings lining the streets are composed in alternating colors of tan, navy, and grey. The buildings farthest away are well lit and create a stark contrast of yellow against the dark neighboring buildings. The composition only includes two far-away figures, a man and a woman. They stand silhouetted against the street corner, as they appear to be preparing to step into the intersection. The artwork is painted in oil on paperboard and is approximately 22 inches tall and 28 inches wide.
