Object Details
Astronaut
Sally K. Ride
Summary
Among the items issued to astronauts are Velcro-backed leather name tags that can be attached to their flight suits and jackets. This name tag is a spare for astronaut Sally K. Ride, who became the first American woman in space in 1983 on the seventh Space Shuttle mission (STS-7). She flew again in 1984, making both flights on Challenger. Astronauts chose the version of their name on these tags. She had a variety of name tags made with Sally, Sally Ride, and Sally K. Ride, and she wore different versions depending on the occasion.
NASA transferred a number of spare astronaut name tags to the Museum over the years.
