Object Details
Astronaut
Guion S. Bluford Jr.
Summary
Among the items issued to astronauts are velcro-backed leather name tags that can be attached to flight suits and jackets. Astronaut Guion S. "Guy" Bluford wore this name tag on his jacket during the STS-8 mission in 1983, when he became the first African American in space. Astronauts can choose the version of their name for these tags. Some prefer first or last name only; some choose nicknames. NASA transferred this name tag with Bluford's complete flight suit shortly after the mission.
