    From NMNH Exhibit Hall "Eternal Life in Ancient Egypt" label for this artifact, 2011: Mummified ibis; Species: Threskiornis aethiopicus, sacred ibis; 525 B.C.-A.D. 200. Through the broken top, you can see bones and part of a wing from a mature and an immature ibis. Embalmers dried the birds, then applied molten resin and oil that burnt through part of the feathers and skin and adhered to the bone.
