    Originally designed by Samuel Pierpont Langley, astronomer, aviation pioneer, inventor, physicist, and third Secretary of the Smithsonian.
    Written on verso: Flight of man-carrying Langley machine at Hammondsport, N.Y., June 2, 1914, piloted by Glenn Curtiss. With original engine, and 300 pounds added weight of pontoons.
