Physical Description

Cylindrical with nosecone and four fixed rectangular, cruciform fins at base, and mounts for attaching to aircraft; also has electrical wires attached for data pickup when tested in wind tunnel.

Summary

This is a 1/3 scale wind tunnel model of the High-Velocity Aircraft Rocket (HVAR). The wires were used to transmit data from the model while in the wind tunnel. The testing history of this model is unknown.

Also designated the Holy Moses, the HVAR was an air-to-surface missile which was widely used by the Army Air Forces and Navy in World War II against both sea and land targets. The missile had a maximum velocity of 1530 km/h (950 mph) and a maximum range of about 5 km (3 miles). More than one million were built before production ended in 1955.

The U.S. Navy transferred this model to the Museum in 1959.
