Baker, Richard P.
Description
This ruled surface has a black wooden frame. It has three components. Two are congruent, one in red threads and the other in blue. They are both twisted so that they self-intersect. The third component is a vertical line joining top and bottom, shown in pink yarn. A typed paper label on top reads: Scroll of higher order.
Some American geometric models copied those of European makers. This is one of them. The model closely resembles a smaller model sold by the German maker Ludwig Brill as a ruled surface with self-intersections. For an example of the German model, see 1985.0112.132.
For two similar but not identical Baker models, see MA.211257.124 and MA.304722.33.
