Summary
This is a model of unknown scale of the Agena, an upper stage developed by Lockheed Missiles and Space for the U.S. Air Force. Three versions were ultimately produced - the Agena-A, Agena-B, and Agena-D. As a second stage on Thor and Atlas boosters, the first two versions launched military payloads from 1959 into the early 1960s. As an upper stage on the same two boosters and as a third stage on top of Titan IIIBs, the Agena-D launched numerous military and civilian payloads from the early 1960s to 1987. The Agena-D was used as the target vehicle for the manned Gemini rendevous and docking missions as well. The model's manufacturer is unknown.
John and Cynthia Heyde donated it to the museum.
