    Object Details

    Honoree

    Owney, American, c. 1888 - 1897

    Description

While traveling in Canada, Owney visited Winnipeg, the capitol of the Canadian province Manitoba, north of Minnesota and North Dakota. Nothing on the tag indicates how Owney traveled to Winnipeg. He might have gone on the Duluth and Winnipeg railroad. This tag marks Owney's appearance at Manitoba Hall, a large, two-story building on Portage Avenue that was, in the 1890s, the largest building in the city. There is no available information to indicate either the nature of the event held at the hall during his visit or when he received this tag.
