Description
The framed painting of Leah Stirring, Red Coat (Sketch) by Gustave Blache, III. The painting (a) is rectangular in a wooden painted frame. The painting depicts a figure wearing a red baseball cap and red shirt, with dark pants and a white apron, with their back to the viewer, in front of a stove with their right arm up and out of the image. In the foreground of the image, there are two pieces of curved sausage on the yellow table. The background is mostly yellow. It is signed on the top left corner, in brown ink, reading "GUSTAVE III / "10." The frame (b) has beveled edges, and painted a dull gold color. On the back of the frame, a clear rectangular sticker with black type is stuck to the center, with type aligned on the left, reading "Gustave Blache III/ American, 1977/ Leah Stirring, Red Coat (Sketch), 2010 / Oil on wood / Courtesy of the artist / Leah Chase: Paintings by Gustave Blache III / New Orleans Museum of Art / April 24, 2012-September 16, 2012]. The back of the frame is not painted, and has four metal brackets sealing the painting inside the back center of the frame.
