    Description

Printed by the State of Kansas in 1919, The Kansas Fifth Reader contains selections from a wide variety of British and American 18th and 19th Century authors and poets (e.g., Robert Browning, Robert Burns, Charles Dickens, Charlotte Bronte). The readings are generally secular, although a few feature Christian writings (e.g., the Shepherd’s Psalm, the Lord's Prayer). Each entry is followed by an exercise section that probes the reader's comprehension, as well as suggested additional readings. The front cover features a green floral illustration with a yellow sunflower. Inside the front cover is an inscription from the owner which reads: “Miss Clarissa Jackson, 747 So. Hall Street, Fort Scott, Kansas.” The title page is missing. It is 404 pages in length.
