Baltimore Colts quarterback Johnny Unitas (1933-2002) played 18 seasons in the National Football League (NFL,) all but two with the Colts (1956-1972), where he was a three-time NFL Most Valuable Player (1959, 1964, 1967) ten-time All-Pro selection, and the NFL’s passing leader for four seasons, leading the Colts to three NFL championships (1958, 1959, 1968) as well as a Super Bowl victory in 1971. The Pennsylvania native’s career was bookended by stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers (1955), where he was never on the active roster, and the San Diego Chargers, where he suited up for his final season (1973). Unitas, who played collegiately for the University of Louisville, is considered one of the greatest players in NFL history, elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979.
