Like each of the eleven artworks in Andy Warhol’s Flash portfolio, this print is a commentary on the media’s coverage of John F. Kennedy’s assassination. Here, multiple portraits of Kennedy are woven together and framed by a clapperboard used to signal the end of a movie or television scene.
Often associated with movie making, the clapperboard may be a nod to the famous twenty-six-second-long Zapruder film. Named for Abraham Zapruder, who captured the footage on his eight-millimeter Bell & Howell camera, the film is the most recognized, and scrutinized, recording of Kennedy’s assassination.
