Description (Brief)
Jenkins model 102 "Radiovisor" television receiver. Unit is a Nipkow disc receiver designed for reception of 60 line pictures at a frame frequency of 20 cps. Synchronizing is accomplished by operating the same 60 cycle power system as that supplying the transmitter. The unit's motor speed is controlled with a rheostat. The model 102 contains the mechanical scanning section only and was ordinarily used with a radio covering the television band from 100-150 meters. The video output signals were fed to a neon glow lamp mounted on the 102 base. This particular artifact has been modified to use a standard 15 watt [incandescent lamp] and base, probably to have a brighter field in demonstrating the mechanical principle of scanning or to illustrate synchronization. A single lens magnifier is employed. The model 102 sold for $69.50, a neon lamp could be purchased for $6.00. Reference: Jenkins literature in the Clark Collection, CWC53-104A, NMAH Archives Center.
