Description
Jackie Robinson broke Major League Baseball's "color barrier", a policy of excluding African American players when he started at first base for the Brooklyn Dodgers on April 15, 1947. Starring for the Dodgers from 1944 to 1956, Robinson was a World Series champion (1955) and a six-time All-Star (1949-1954). Elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962, Robinson's number (42) was retired by all major league teams in 1997.
