    Description

Printed proof of an illustration fora Knopf edition (unpublished) of Carl van Vechten's controversial novel, N***** Heaven, originally published in 1926. At center, a figure in a red dress stands on a stage, in the spotlight, facing right. The figure has one hand raised, and the other on their hip, and appears to be in the midst of singing. In the background, a theater with a seated audience is depicted in rougher sketches.
