Summary
This communications carrier was used by mission commander Frank Borman during the Apollo 8 mission in December 1968. Communications carriers were worn throughout the mission, and affectionately known as the "Snoopy Cap" from its resemblance to a famous cartoon character.
It was constructed of an elastic center portion with Teflon fabric sides containing the communications equipment and mouthpiece. It fastened beneath the chin and was worn through the launch sequence and during all phases of the journey to and from the Moon.
Transferred from NASA to the Museum in 1984.
