Harrison, Benjamin
Description
This cigar box shows support for Benjamin Harrison and Whitelaw Reid’s failed 1892 presidential campaign. Reid was a journalist who was often seen as the voice of the Republican party, and campaigned actively for the incumbent president. Politicians were notorious cigar-smokers during these years, and Benjamin Harrison was often seen with a cigar in his hand. Nonetheless, he lost to Grover Cleveland’s Democratic party.
